Mark was born in Emporia, Kansas and raised in the Wichita area, graduating from South High School in 1970. As a young man, he worked for Wichita-Sedgwick County EMS as a medic and part-time for a local mortuary service.
In 1978, Mark moved his family to Englewood, California where he continued his work in the funeral profession. In 1984, they returned to Derby, Kansas in order to be near their extended family and to raise their children in a community where old-fashioned hometown values are the norm.
Mark graduated from the University of Kansas Law Enforcement Academy and became a police officer with the Derby Police Department. He has also worked as an assistant to the Chief Medical Examiner with the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center, as well as an assistant funeral director with Resthaven and Smith mortuaries. His background has touched on many aspects of life and has given him sensitivity to those experiencing trauma and emotional loss.
In 2007, Mark joined the staff of Broadway Mortuary and Kensington Gardens as an assistant funeral director. He has enjoyed working in an environment where he can excel and reach his potential of service to others. His previous work experience, the cultivation of his skills, and his desire to pursue excellence adds to our ability to better serve others.
Mark and his wife of 35 years, Ruth, have two children and three grandchildren. They enjoy family trips, grandkids' sporting events, outdoor activities and car customizing. The Sloyers are active members of St. Mary Parish in Derby, Kansas.
