Representatives From Broadway Mortuary Head to Capitol Hill

NEWS RELEASE Brookfield, Wis. - Ashley and Bill Cozine of Broadway Mortuary, joined professional colleagues from around the nation in Washington, D.C., for the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) Advocacy Summit, March 30-April 1.  This event gives NFDA members the opportunity to meet face-to-face with their congressional representatives on Capitol Hill to discuss issues of critical importance to the funeral profession and the families and communities they serve.

Issues that Broadway Mortuary and other Summit attendees discussed with their elected officials were:  Ensuring that taxpayers who set aside money for their funeral and burial trusts are not penalized for planning ahead by having this money counted as an asset in determining eligibility for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program; easing the tax burden for family-owned funeral homes through reduction or elimination of the federal estate tax; and increasing affordable healthcare options for small businesses.

The majority of NFDA-member funeral homes are small, family-owned businesses that have strong ties to their community and are dedicated to giving back through various outreach programs.

“It’s important our voices be heard so we can move the key issues that affect our business and those we serve forward with our senators and representatives,” said Ashley Cozine.  “We have a strong commitment to the families and community we serve.  The success of our business helps us maintain our programs and services that are beneficial to the public.”
