Keeper of Heritage

Keepers on Parade is a public art project sponsored by Together Wichita. The ten-foot tall Keeper of the Plains replicas are painted by local artists and proudly displayed throughout Wichita. There are approximately 59 Keepers around the city to date. We encourage you to see them all! Our Keeper of Heritage statue pays tribute to the unique and lasting legacy of the City of Wichita and the State of Kansas.

It honors Blackbear Bosin, the creator of the original Keeper of the Plains statue, and the Native American people who originally inhabited the area. The Keeper of Heritage was designed with the help of Tracy Holdeman of Insight Design and painted by local artist, Meredith Radke-Gannon. It was unveiled on November 1, 2022. We hope you enjoy reading and learning more about its symbolism.
