Elizabeth Suzanne HirschMarch 31, 1937 ~ May 6, 2018 (age 81)
Hirsch, Elizabeth S. “Beb”, 81, passed away on Sunday morning, May 6, 2018 at her home near Benton, KS. Beb was born on March 31, 1937 on the family farm just outside of Hendrum, MN and was the third child of Lovilla and Douglas J. Nichol. She had nothing but fond memories about her life and family growing up on the farm which graced the eastern bank of the Red River. Beb attended Hendrum schools through the 9th grade before transferring to Oak Grove Lutheran School in Fargo, ND where she graduated from High School in 1955. She then attended Bob Jones University where she attained a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and graduated in 1959. Following her graduation from Bob Jones University, she taught Middle School for 2 years in Chattanooga, TN. During a vacation in Florida, she met Bernard (Bernie) Hirsch while she was sitting on a beach waiting for a friend. After a brief dinner, they were married on December 23, 1962 in Augusta, GA. They returned to Florida following the wedding and remained in Florida until 1999. Beb later attained a Master’s degree in Education from Florida Atlantic University and was a life-long educator who, at various times and locations, taught elementary through adults. Her last 9 years of teaching were the most rewarding and were spent at a school, which she and her friends started, and where she taught children with learning disabilities. In 1999, Beb and Bernie left the crowds and humidity of Florida behind and moved to Kansas to be near their grandchildren. They have been members and regular attenders at the First Evangelical Church in Wichita since their arrival in Kansas. Mrs. Hirsch is survived by her husband Bernie; her sons, Todd Hirsch, Benton, KS; Jonathon (Kae) Hirsch, Whitewater, KS; her brother, John (Sovena) Nichol, Greenville, SC; her brother Stewart (Kit) Nichol, Wolverton, MN; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Benjamin, and Autumn. Mrs. Hirsch is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Payne from Marietta, GA. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the First Evangelical Free Church. Arrangements by Broadway Mortuary.
