Deryl K. SchusterAugust 24, 1935 ~ September 24, 2020 (age 85)
Schuster, Deryl K., age 85, passed away September 24, 2020. Former Kansas Bank Commissioner, former Regional Director, United States Small Business Administration, and former president of the Kansas Bankers Association, Deryl dedicated his life's work to small business owners, entrepreneurs, and the men and women who are the heart of America. He served as president of the National Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders and volunteered countless hours to the creation of economic opportunity for small business owners nationwide.
Deryl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anita Jean (Martin) Schuster, daughter Robyn (Brad) Cooper, grand-children Taryn Murphy, Devin (Emily) Schuster, Aaron Schuster and Tristyn (Greg) Brotton. Great-grandchildren Gabriel Murphy, Jenny Murphy, Emaline Brotton, Nora Brotton and Sophie Schuster. He was preceded in death by son Doug.
His compassion for the less fortunate in life compelled his humanitarian efforts as a board member of United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas for 50 years, as a member of board of the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation, and the support of many other charitable organizations committed to improving and enhancing the quality of life for those with "challenges I will never know." Deryl believed in everyone, challenged everyone he met to do things they thought they could not, and never understood the word "impossible."
He never met a stranger and every person who spent a moment with Deryl walked away feeling better about themselves as he alway reminded them they were "awesome," "phenomenal," and with a firm grip and a smile sent us on our way! His accomplishments in the business world, politics, service to others and civic endeavors could fill volumes. However, the great work of this man's life was loving others. From co-workers to family members, from his care-givers to his church family, he leaves behind a void that will not be filled. This was a life well-lived. Now he is in God's hands. Rest well, Deryl.
