Dear Joannie and family: We just found out about Richard's passing. Our dad, Kenneth Ewy was Richard's first cousin. Many people knew how to pronounce Ewy, because of Richard and Uncle Walter. I had the opportunity to see Richard play when I was in Junior High. I also had many visits with Dev Nelson. long-time KSU sportscaster. In the last few years Richard and I had some neat visits on the phone. He was so proud of his family and a dedicated caretaker for Joanie. At the same time he was always asking about our families in western kansas.
God Bless to all of you.
John and Marsha Ewy, Jetmore (Hodgeman County)

Dear Joannie, Sarah, Erin and Becca,
I'm so so sorry. Dick was one of the kindest, sweetest people I ever knew. That easy smile of his drew people to him and his gentle nature made you want to be his friend. Please know there are many people holding all of you in their hearts now and in the coming months.

I met Richard during my last year at SHS. I always thought he was a real gentlemen, and probably the sharpest kid in Stafford at that time. I didn't really get to know him well, but we were good friends. I do remember playing tennis with him once. I lost track of him until many years later when I was flying for the Cessna Aircraft Co., and flew him to Ks. City on Law business for the company and saw he was on my manifest. We did get reacquainted and I enjoyed seeing him again. I always had a lot respect for him and his father (Walter), our principal. My condolences to the family.

I have an empty place just now. Richard was a super friend and a great individual. At least he is no longer suffering. I miss him and just hope his family can find the strength and courage needed to deal with his loss and this passage. Peace.

The entire Ewy family was such a huge part of my life for so many years! They were my next door neighbors and I couldn’t have been more blessed to have them as friends. Richard was an amazing person, a wonderful family man, and this world will be a little less bright without him in it. Sarah, Erin, and Rebecca, please know how much I love all of you, and I am so sorry for your loss. Please give your mom a big hug from me!
