Dr. Riney, Michelle and Doug,
I was so sorry to hear this news. I have such good memories of coming to your house for piano lessons! Your mom was fabulous and I always thought she was so glamourous even at 7:30 in the morning for a 30-minute lesson. I still hear her saying 'Nice -cup-of-tea' or 'trip -a -let, trip -a - let' when I sit down to play.
I will be praying for you all during this difficult time.

Cecil, Doug, and Michelle,

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news. My heart goes out to you and all your family at the loss of such a kind-hearted and giving person. I was one of Verna's many piano students, walking the short distance as a child from our home on Lark Lane to the Riney house. You are all so special to our family and I pray God's most precious mercies, comfort and love surround you.

Dr. Riney and Family,

My prayers are with you all in this time of remembrance. I am so thankful for the hope and love you all have taught through simply sharing your time and talents with this world. I am a better person by far because of the joy God gives me in the memories he holds closest to my heart. While my relationship with Jesus has become closer than ever in the last 10 years, it was 20 years ago this month that you all helped me to ignite the flame on my walk with Him. The love and devotion of your beloved Wife and Mother inspires me because of her support and strength in all that her loved ones did. She has given us an image of beauty and grace that we have experienced on earth and hope for in heaven. May God's peace rest on your hearts and his hope and joy fill your souls as you remember her gift of love that is small in comparison to the love that she was sharing from her faith in Jesus Christ.

With Sympathy,

Cecil, Doug and Michelle,

My heart goes out to you in the lost of your wife and mother. She was a very special lady! I remember her gift of baking cinnamon rolls and giving to others. I praise the Lord for the godly characters that were reproduced in her life.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15

In His love,

Dear Dr Riney and family,
I was saddened to hear of the loss of Verna The first time I saw Verna was at a Friends University graduation of my Uncle Ron Dillon. I was about 13. I thought she was beautiful. I several years later learned she was Dr Riney’s wife and I began to see she was also beautiful on the inside. I began to see she was also beautiful on the inside as well. Prayers to you at this time.

Dear Dr. Riney and family,
We were so saddened to hear about the loss of Verna. What a privilege it was for our daughters Kerri and Christy to come into your home (of course with savory smells coming from the kitchen) to take lessons on a weekly basis. She was always so gracious. We loved her!! We are so thankful we will get to see her in heaven someday. May God lift you up as you mourn her loss.

Dr. Riney,
I recall the first real encounter I had with Verna in Canada. She treated me like I was part of your family. She had a heart of gold and was so very sweet. As a young man I watched how you treated her and your children. You were always so gentle and expressed admiration for Verna. I never once heard you say a bad thing.
It is your ability to be a gentleman and her warming personality that make so many of us feel like we're a part of your family.
She will be missed.

Dr. Riney and Family -
Verna was my piano teacher for over ten years and she was always so kind and caring. I'm so thankful for the skill she taught me and I am now passing onto my own children. I am so sorry for your loss - what a wonderful Christian, teacher, and friend.

My favorite memory of my sweet aunt is the time I was driving down Maize Road and saw her power walking. Long strides, arms swinging, head tilted up so the sun was shining on her face and she had the biggest smile. Before I knew who it was, I thought to my self "now there's someone who really loves life". Once I realized who it was, I figured it wasn't just a lover of life. She was such a woman of faith that I really believed she was probably thanking God for the beautiful day, the sun in the sky, the birds in the trees. She will be missed.

I am so very sorry - Mrs. Riney was a wonderful, grace-filled woman and I know she will be greatly missed. One of my favorite stories was about the new puppy (I think it was Doug's) who jumped up on the dining room table and started eating the roast beef. According to my mom, she scolded the puppy, took the roast to the kitchen and cut off the part that the puppy had bitten and put it back on the table - roast beef was expensive!! Love and prayers to you all. ~Jane

Dr. Riney and family,

My prayers and heart are with you. Verna was a great blessing. She taught my sister Kim piano for years, and she was such a great support to all the ministry Dr. Riney did at Friends. I know Christ has received her. She has heard Him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Blessings on all of you as you traverse these roads of grief. You do not do it alone. We go with you in Christ, together.
